The Smithville Police Department arrested Smithville resident Ricky James Stevens, 37, in connection with a Saturday night hit-and-run crash near Super Donuts on Loop 230. Stevens has been charged with manslaughter, according to the Smithville Police Department, and is being held in the Bastrop County Jail.

Officers responded to calls of an unresponsive male at Super Donuts at 7:34 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 11, according to a Facebook post by the Smithville Police Department.

Officers found the victim unresponsive and performed CPR until EMS arrived. The victim, later identified as Smithville resident Jimmie Lee Jones, was taken to an Austin hospital but died from his injuries.

The initial investigation suggested Jones may have been struck by a vehicle and the driver had fled the scene. SPD immediately began investigating it as a hit-and-run.

The investigation tracked the suspect vehicle to the Pflugerville area and, with the assistance of the Travis County Sheriff's Office, the vehicle was located and seized as evidence.
